Thank you for a wonderful volunteer season! Returning volunteers can  to access available opportunities and review hours.

The application period for first-time volunteers will open in February 2021.

Have an Impact

Individuals

Get involved! There are many opportunities for individuals at The Battery, the beautiful historic park at the southern tip of Manhattan. Volunteers are an essential part of The Battery Conservancy team. 

During the season, volunteer shifts are available Monday-Saturday 9:30am to 12:00pm. All individual volunteers must watch an orientation video and complete a follow-up form.

The 2020 season has ended; the 2021 season will begin in March.

Gardener

Garden at The Battery! Gardeners work side-by-side with our professional horticulturalists to plant, weed, divide, prune, rake, and perform the tasks required to maintain The Battery’s .

 

Battery Urban Farm

Farm at our educational ! Volunteers assist with a range of tasks to maintain our vegetable and forest farms. Activities include harvesting produce for donations, layering and turning compost, bed prep, weeding, mulching, and occasional planting.

 

Greeter

Engage with fellow New Yorkers and visitors from around the world! Greeters answer questions from visitors about directions, park information, and The Battery Conservancy. Greeters must attend a Greeter Training session in addition to Orientation.

 

Tour Guide

Tour Guides lead free, hour-long tours to inform the public about The Battery’s rich history, landmarks and monuments, SeaGlass Carousel, 195,000 square feet of beautiful perennial gardens, and much more.

 

Core Volunteers

The Battery Conservancy relies on dedicated volunteers who participate regularly. Core group members are invited to volunteer Monday through Saturday, outside usually scheduled volunteer hours. They earn service-based rewards, receive invitations to special events and activities, and gain advanced training in horticulture.

Corporate

Team building at The Battery

Corporate Partners provide financial and hands-on support to ensure the future of The Battery’s 25 acres. The Battery Conservancy is proud to partner with civic-minded corporations committed to supporting the rebuilding of New York’s first waterfront park and the revitalization of the cultural life of Downtown Manhattan. Battery Corporate Partners enrich the quality of life of their employees, customers, and the local community, as well as the millions of visitors who come to The Battery each year.

Corporate Volunteer days provide employees valuable team-building experiences and the opportunity to develop a sense of stewardship. The Battery can accommodate corporate groups of up to 25 volunteers.  To inquire about group volunteer days in 2021, please email volunteer@hongps.com.

Non-Corporate

Non-corporate organizations are welcome to schedule a volunteer day for a suggested donation of $25 per person. The maximum capacity is 25 people. To request a non-corporate volunteer day, please fill out this .
